An Experience on Women¡¯s Forgiveness Group Art Therapy

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the nature and meaning of the experience of the women who participated in the forgiveness group art therapy.
Methods: A phenomenological methods of van Manen¡¯s perspective was adopted in this study. Participants in the study were the six women who participated in forgiveness group art therapy. Data were collected using, in-dept interviews with respective participants were conducted from Feb 2014 to Mar 2014 after they received forgiveness group art therapy.
Results: The five thematic statements in this study were as follows: ¡¯Organized their feeling by keeping distance from the traumatic experiences and feeling¡¯, ¡¯Their fixed idea on the subjects of forgiveness changed¡¯, ¡¯They started exploring the pattern of their interpersonal relationship¡¯, ¡¯Their inner world was associated with the art media, ¡¯ An artwork enabled them to handle their wounded heart¡¯.
Conclusion: Forgiveness art therapy allows women not only to recognize the conception of forgiveness but to have a meaningful experience for treating wounded heart and reflecting their own attitude towards the whole life. This study is meaningful it that it has established a foundation for the forgiveness group art therapy.
